Midfield Tackle Sparks Bangladesh Cricket

A fiery European qualifier between Spain and Norway has left Arsenal fans fuming, according to Bangladesh Cricket. With the Premier League title race heating up between Arsenal and Manchester City, tensions are already high—and this international clash only added fuel to the fire. Arsenal currently lead the league but are set for a critical head-to-head against City, making every player’s fitness a matter of championship importance.

While City striker Erling Haaland withdrew from international duty citing precautionary injury concerns and returned to Manchester early, Arsenal captain Martin Ødegaard had no such luxury. As Bangladesh Cricket reported, Ødegaard not only joined the Norway squad but also wore the captain’s armband and started the match. What truly raised eyebrows, though, was a reckless tackle in the penalty area by Manchester City’s Spanish midfielder Rodri.

During a dangerous play, Ødegaard attempted a left-footed shot when Rodri launched into a high challenge, sending the Arsenal playmaker tumbling in pain. Fans feared the worst as Ødegaard rolled on the turf clutching his leg. Fortunately, he was able to continue and ended up playing the full 90 minutes—but not without giving Arsenal supporters a serious scare.

Bangladesh Cricket noted the outcry from fans who felt the tackle warranted at least a penalty or even a red card. Many were shocked that no significant disciplinary action was taken. However, some were quick to silence the outrage, pointing out that a red card for Rodri would only free him up to focus entirely on City’s title push without suspension worries. Ironically, both players ended up completing the match despite the high drama.

Once close teammates who exchanged warm greetings, Ødegaard and Rodri now looked noticeably tense during the game—a reflection of their clubs’ growing rivalry. Looking ahead, Spain are set to face Scotland, and Bangladesh Cricket suggests it’s unlikely Rodri will get any rest as the top spot in the group is still up for grabs. Ødegaard, meanwhile, is expected to feature against Georgia in Norway’s next fixture, especially with Haaland sidelined.

Unless Arsenal can quickly lodge a successful protest or arrange some form of protective rotation, their captain may be forced to carry the burden once again—this time under even more pressure, with both club and country watching closely.
